Western Quarry Revegetation

Revegetation programs for previously quarried areas

We are assisting local quarries to rehabilitate old quarry sites.

Project Platypus were engaged to deliver rahabilitation works for a VSA Group/Western Quarries managed quarry site near Dunneworthy. A selection of local endemic species of lower story plants were planted along 0.5 hectares of steep hillside to stabilise the soil and bolster biodiversity.

  1. Submit Expression of Interest

    Initial query recieved

  2. Site visit

    This included determining the area to be planted and any weed control that would be needed.

  3. Works plan developed

    Species endemic to Dunneworthy area were identified and selected.

  4. Plants ordered

    Order put into a nursery supplier.

  5. Site preparation

    The quarry was given instructions on how to prepare (batter/rip) the site.

  6. Preliminary weed control

    Weed control was delivered after the autumn break.

  7. Site planted

    The Project Platypus team planted 1000 plants across 0.5 hectares.

  8. Follow up weed control

    The Project Platypus team returned to deliver additional weed control, to ensure native plants could successfully establish.
